WIP Wednesday & WIPocalypse Check-in…

It’s time for me to post something that’s actually happening! Gah! Those who know me offline or via Facebook are aware that I’ve been really struggling with being a mom, and things like my blogging – which actually would be therapeutic – seem to be falling by the wayside. I really need to get on a writing routine… baby steps…

Anyway, I’ve made some progress on the stitching front in the last month. The main project was my square for Kathy’s Block Sampler in the Band Sampler RR group. This is the next-to-final round… the last piece is en route to me now. It’s been a blast – great group of women, fun projects. I know they want to give it another go, and I’m tempted. I’m also tempted to focus on my own projects, though, which always seem to go dead on years I do robins.

Here’s my square for Kathy’s sampler, with all of its beaded bling:

While waiting for Jo’s band sampler to arrive, I’ve been throwing some more stitches in Blue Jeans & Daisies from Blue Ribbon Designs.. on the bottom center bands, of all things. The light brown one I put in during my commute this morning & lunch hour:

I’m really hoping to get this done before the end of the year. The full size of the piece is just about defined. Those squares on the right mark the bottom and right borders. I just need to fill in the other squares and the motifs. I’m saving the large square in the center for last. This is one of those pieces that is marked with memory for me. I was pregnant with Max when I started the birdhouse. I put the weeping tree in the weeks just before Max arrived. The beehive was put in while I was in the hospital with pancreatitis just after Max was born. The white border around the center was during many sleepless nights last year with Max on the couch.

This is why I stitch, by the way – because memories get imprinted with every cross.

This month’s WIPocalypse question (OMG, I’m answering one!) is: Who is your favourite person to stitch for, or do you prefer to keep your stitching yourself?

I generally stitch for myself… but I think that’s mostly because I’m much more of a starter and less of a finisher. For me it’s all about the journey of stitching, and I’ll finish things when I get around to them… by which time they’d better be for me because everyone else is tired of waiting! :)

17 Sep 2014 Great post! I agree about each stitch (or piece) being a vessel for so many memories. I thnk it is why stitching endures as such an art form!

19 Sep 2014 Lovely stitching! How funny to see it in your blog when it is sag next to me on the sofa right now! I have just finished my square too. I am definitely in for next year, this will be the only RR I sign up for. I love the Joan Elliott and Mirabilia but they take up too much time! I do remember what I was doing when I pick up my stitching, it's usually what was on the TV at the time!
